\u201cCon gran tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra querida Sin\u00e9ad. Su familia y amigos est\u00e1n devastados y han pedido privacidad en este momento tan dif\u00edcil\u201d, se\u00f1ala la nota, que no precisa las circunstancias de la muerte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La artista dublinesa, que alcanz\u00f3 fama mundial con el tema \u201cNothing Compares 2 U\u201d en 1990, tuvo despu\u00e9s una exitosa carrera musical, si bien estuvo marcada por la pol\u00e9mica por sus opiniones pol\u00edticas y religiosas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despu\u00e9s de romper en un programa de la televisi\u00f3n estadounidense la foto del papa Juan Pablo II en 1992, se orden\u00f3 sacerdotisa de una orden cat\u00f3lica disidente en 1999, y en 2018 rechaz\u00f3 el cristianismo para convertirse al Islam, por lo que cambi\u00f3 su nombre a Shuhada\u2019 Sadaqat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como cantante public\u00f3 un total de diez \u00e1lbumes de estudio, pero nunca dej\u00f3 de lado su papel de activista, abordando diferentes problem\u00e1ticas como el abuso infantil, <\/a>que dijo haber sufrido, los derechos de las mujeres o el racismo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los problemas de salud mental tambi\u00e9n fueron una constante en la vida de O\u2019Connor, madre de cuatro hijos, unos de los cuales, Shane, se suicid\u00f3 el pasado a\u00f1o a los 17 a\u00f1os, despu\u00e9s de estar desaparecido durante varios d\u00edas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tras este suceso, la cantante explic\u00f3 en sus redes sociales que su hijo \u201cdecidi\u00f3 poner fin a su lucha terrenal\u201d y pidi\u00f3 que \u201cnadie siguiera su ejemplo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El primer ministro irland\u00e9s, Leo Varadkar, declar\u00f3 que lamenta \u201cprofundamente\u201d la muerte de Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor y extendi\u00f3 sus \u201ccondolencias a su familia, amigos y a todos los que amaban su m\u00fasica\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
